The Bardenas Reales is an area of 40.000 hectares south of Navarre, in Spain. today they look like a desert. There is just a running stream and their sole inhabitants are sheep, rabbits, reptiles and some predators. The army has been using a part of the Bardenas as a shooting range. Some astonishing pieces of information have been supplied to us by an archaeological study of the Bardenas Reales. And so, we are told that there once existed important rivers, lime trees, poplars, silver birches, chestnut trees, … as well as deers, badgers, wild cats, … we are also told that the Bardenas reales had been inhabited by man. The archaeological digs have produced evidence of a significant level of development.
