The city of Casablanca includes many archaeological sites, which are exceptional because of their large scale, their richness and the fact that all the Ages –from 2.5 million up to 400.000 years– are to be found in their various geological layers. Through the film, many personalities as well as french and moroccan archaeologists stress the importance of safeguarding these sites. The archaeologists’ work on site is described in many sequences: inventory of discovered material, description and classification, rediscovery of the chronological stages in tool construction, and research into the behaviour of prehistoric man. The need to preseve the archaeological heritage is illustrated through a students’ tour of the Sidi Abderrahmane site, known as the Bears’ Cave.
