Using paintbox graphics and material specially shot on location, this sequence begins by placing the archaeological site of Troy in its geographical and topographical context. Using aerial shots, maps and site plans (derived from W. Dörpfeld’s late nineteenth-century original), recognizable features on the site are identified – the massive curved walls at the site entrance, the stone built theatre, the large paved ramp and Schliemann’s north/ south excavation trench. These features serve to demonstrate the complexity of this site.
The sequence develops into a ‘detective story’, a ‘layer-by-layer’ uncovering of the site with the presenters aiming to answer the questions “what do we know about what has been found here?” and “what sort of site is it?”.
