The film is about the archaeological findings during the excavations in the old central district of Rome (Testaccio), made in order to prepare the area where the New Testaccio Market will be built.
The excavation has a high value, because it allows to realize a big action of urban archaeology, which gives a continuous diachronic reconstruction of that territory’s history, until modern times. In particular it shows how past and present can coexist in harmony, revealing the old urban tissue through the birth of a modern action. It represents the actual interaction between a museum space and an useful structure. The result is a stronger link between citizens and their historical memory.
Through the voice of a Roman sailor, just arrived ashore, we’ll take a leap back into the past, so that we’ll know the story of this corner of the city, the routes followed by the ships that unloaded their goods here, and the faces of this district throughout the ages.
