The film narrates the history of the foundation of Greek colonies in Libya and presents Cyrene: its temples, theatres, gymnasiums etc, all well-preserved. Cyrene and its port, Apollonia, used to be one of the richest ancient cities. In the Archaeological Museum of Tripolis, the historian Mohamed Ali Fakroum talks about the good relations between Greeks and Libyans and about the importance of the Greek heritage, that the Libyans feel like their own.
The remains of ancient Teucheira, noted for its innumerable ancient Greek inscriptions, are situated in a sparsely-populated area today. Ancient Barce was destroyed by earthquakes, and no remains of the settlement are visible but finds from the city are on display in the Ptolemais Museum. Ptolemais is located in a large area by the sea. It looks abandoned and only sheep come to pasture and some foreign tourists with special interests. Euesperides, today Benghazi, is Libya’s second largest city. Traces of the ancient settlement are located near the big lighthouse.
