Catal Höyük / Voices of the Past

Relics of human history, 9000 years old. The artwork from Catal Höyük offers us a direct glimpse of life in the Neolithic age, when humans first began to live in cities. This site is thought to be the oldest and largest Neolithic Age city found to date. It is the first established settlement to have practised the exchange of goods with distant regions. It was here that the first metal works and extensive animal grazing was undertaken. The archaeological remains in the tells of the Konya plateau reveal the important contribution of central Anatolia to the development of Mediterranean societies as they contain the germs of Western culture, long since turned to dust. Here it becomes clear to us: Greece and Rome stand at the end of a long developmental sequence. Catal Höyük-voices of the past, tries to combine conventional film documentation with unusual sounds, samples of human voices-if you want: the music of prehistory. The film also shows the potential of new media in archaeology.
