An important excavation has been taking place since 1992, at Dispilio, on lake Kastoria in Western Macedonia. The prehistoric lake settlement was accidentaly discovered in 1932, when the lake’s level fell substantially to reveal hundreds of poles, the remains of a settlement which had been inhabited from 5000 and up to 3500 B.C.
The film observes the path followed by research as it is led to hypotheses through the finds, and attempts a vivid reconstruction of the economic and productive activities that took place within the settlement.
Professor George Hourmouziades, who is responsible for the excavation, directs the discussion on neolithic settlements in the Helladic space within a dynamic theoretical framework, through his selective interventions.
