Filmed like an historical detective story, this documentary narrates the unbelievable story of the research of the remains of Agnes Sorel by a team led by Dr. Charlier from the CHU hospital in Lille.
Exhuming the bones buried in the tomb of King Charles VII’s mistress and analyzing the teething, scientists concluded that she was a blond woman, between 25 and 26 years old which gave birth to three children.
The film portrays the first official royal mistress of France who wielded considerable influence over the king and his policies and to the future of the kingdom. Agnes Sorel caused a scandal with her extravagant taste in clothing, her political influence and her ability to talk and behave without any restraints in the end of the medieval period. Doctor’s Charlier’s team has not only identified the remains but has also discovered the cause of death: mercury poisoning.
