The history of my time- Manos Zakharias 1968

During the Greek Civil War, filmmaker Manos Zakharias belonged to the Republican Army’s small film group. After twenty years as a political exile in the Soviet Union, fate brought Zakharias back to the Czechoslovakian border for the filming of “A Member of the Firing Squad”. From there, he watched from up close as the Soviet tanks crushed the Prague Spring. At the height of the dictatorship in Greece, a few months after the split of the Greek Communist Party, with so many unanswered questions from May ’68, the invasion of Czechoslovakia erased all hope and made a reassessment imperative. Focusing on individual responsibility in the face of historical priorities, the film becomes a fresco of a troubled year.
