In the desert of South Australia is the village Coober Pedy with a population of 3500, with a Greek Community, which was formed in the ’50s with the big immigrant wave from Greece to Australia. At that time there was not even a village anf the heat of 50-60°C most of the year was a serious problem. For this reason the Greeks dug their homes under the ground as some houses in Santorini in Greece and Cappadokia in Asia Minor. In these “dug outs” the temperature during winter and summer is 23-25°C. The Greek miners who dig for opal tell their story. The film is also about feelings and the way of life exploring the mentality of these people who remain children as they consider opal mining a game that must not end, rather than a profession.
