The feasts of Luernius

Around the 1st century B.C., a Greek sage named Poseidonios, gives testimony of an Averni king named “Luernius” and his abundant feasts. In July 2001, archaeologist and writer of a doctoral thesis concerning the Gaullic feasts, Matthieu Poux, begins excavations in the Corent plateau of Auvergne, near Lyon. Researches are concentrated in a rectangle temple, 60m long, situated in the centre of a huge town of 70 ha. Spectacular discoveries came to light: traces of ornaments and weaponry, evidence of massive wooden buildings but mostly, thousands of animal remains and wine amphora: evidence of generous feasts…
